Mountain roads need resilience before the next warning

In hill regions, rain can affect roads, bridges, power and access to health services at the same time. Preventive inspections, slope management and clear travel advisories are more valuable than emergency repairs after a route fails. Communities also need alternative access plans when one road is blocked.nnThe Northern Review will examine resilience through maintenance and response capacity, not only the number of closures announced.nn Preparedness should include inspections, alternative routes, emergency contacts and public updates in accessible language. The Northern Review will follow both prevention and recovery.
