Regional reporting should follow the second-day story

A credible regional newsroom does more than repeat the first announcement. After a weather alert, it checks which districts flooded and whether roads reopened. After an election schedule changes, it checks whether residents can correct their records. After a rainfall report, it asks what happened to reservoirs, farms and urban supply.\n\nThat follow-through is especially important across northern India, where one state average can conceal very different district conditions. The Northern Review’s policy is to separate official statements from field impact, identify uncertainty and return to the story when the promised action can be measured.\n\nReaders need the practical outcome of a decision, not only the language used to announce it.
